For whatever reason, some transfers do not always go as smoothly as one would plan, however, Rangers might be counting their blessings that one move did not go ahead.
Joleon Lescott was expected to join the Light Blues in the summer of 2016, however, a switch fell through at the final hour as the experienced defender allegedly turned down a move to Ibrox because of family reasons (Sky Sports), although there were also claims that personal terms could not be agreed to.
And, it seems karma can have a real way of coming back to bite people on the behind, although the Rangers fans will not be too upset with how it hit the veteran centre-back.
Subsequently, the former Manchester City and Aston Villa enforcer joined AEK Athens, although his time in Greece did not last long as they tore up his contract just three months into his spell with them after he picked up a serious knee injury that ruled him out for around six months (Daily Record).
He was quite frankly abysmal during his time with the Midlands outfit, whilst he was also rather underwhelming during his spell at West Bromwich Albion following his release from Manchester City.
Lescott may have won a number of honours during his time with the Citizens – and that could well have appealed to Mark Warburton as he was looking for leaders in his rather fragile Rangers squad – however if the Premier League side were more than happy to just let him walk at the end of his contract then surely alarm bells must have been ringing.
Lescott decided to join six months with Sunderland before retiring from the game, although his time at the Stadium of Light was hardly anything worth writing about.
Do not worry, we have not forgotten about his social media mishap either – you know the one, the ‘accidental pocket car tweet’ (we’ve all done it, right?) and let’s face it, those at Ibrox could seriously do without any off-the-field dramas.
Warburton and Rangers, you can firmly say Lescott was an excellent bullet to have dodged.
Rangers fans, how pleased are you the deal to take Lescott to Ibrox collapsed (regardless of the alleged reasons as to why)? Let us know below!
