Fears at Ibrox revealed in Rangers report after yet another unwelcome setback

For the Rangers fans here in the Transfer Tavern, the January break is a time to reassess. As ever for our resident Gers, it’s been a mixed campaign thus far, one full of ups and downs. Indeed, that applies to no one more than summer signing, Bruno Alves.

The veteran Portuguese defender joined the Light Blues over the course of the summer with a big reputation, though has since struggled to get off the ground in Glasgow. With that in mind, reports from the Daily Record have barely proved at all surprising to our drinkers.

They claim the 36-year-old’s future at Ibrox up in the air after he suffered yet another injury against Celtic and those behind the scenes at the club are understood to be fearing for his chances of making the club’s mid-season break trip to America to take part in the Florida Cup.

Reportedly spotted limping in Edinburgh Airport yesterday, the former Fenerbahce man’s future is thought to be up in the air, though he was assessed by the club’s medical staff yesterday.

Landlord’s Verdict:

David Bates certainly impressed against Celtic and the notion of pairing him with the likes of Danny Wilson in the centre of defence is surely far more appealing than relying on ageing Alves. Unlikely to be on a small wage packet, perhaps it would be wise to cut losses.
