Rangers supporters in the Transfer Tavern are very much looking forward to the remainder of the summer transfer window, what with their side already very busy bolstering their ranks ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
The Gers could only muster a third place finish in the Scottish Premiership this term, but they confirmed earlier this month that Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard would be taking over ahead of the new season. And the 37-year-old has been busy already getting players through the door at Ibrox, with Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield joining on free transfers, and Jamie Murphy making his loan move permanent after a decent spell in the second half of the campaign.
And the Light Blues don’t appear to be done there, as recent reports suggest that they are in the race to re-sign Swansea City defender Kyle Bartley, who is also thought to be attracting interest from Leeds United, another of his former employers.
However, the £3.15 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) should forget about Elland Road this summer, as he would be better served moving north of the border and joining Gerrard’s revolution at Rangers.
Ultimately, things finally appear to be heading in the right direction at Ibrox, what with Gerrard’s appointment not only generating a feel-good factor around the club ahead of the new season, but it has brought with it what look like very shrewd additions in their bid to bridge the gap to Celtic.
As such, it would appear that Gerrard is seeking to build a new era at Rangers as they finally bid to challenge Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys after years in the wilderness – why would one not want to be a part of that?
In fact, Bartley was at Rangers the last time they won the title back in 2011, so will be well aware of exactly what it means to the club, and indeed the first season of financial problems in 2012, and as such will also be well aware of how much they are striving to get back to the summit.
Add in the fact that he would go into a Rangers side and likely command regular first team football, what with David Bates leaving the club this summer, Russell Martin unlikely to be signed permanently, and Bruno Alves simply not good enough, and Ibrox with Gerrard at the helm looks to be the perfect option.
Alongside the uncertainly surrounding the future of Leeds chief Paul Heckingbottom, who has struggled since taking over from Thomas Christiansen back in February, and the instability that seems to follow the Whites around and has done for some time, it would certainly be a risk returning to Elland Road for another spell.
Thus, with positivity emanating from Rangers, and things certainly looking up under Gerrard, Bartley should forget Leeds and instead opt for a return to Ibrox this summer.
