Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern will be excited with the progress that manager Steven Gerrard has already been making, and as such will certainly be hoping for more this summer.
The new Ibrox chief has already been busy in recruiting a number of additions, having already added the likes of Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor from Burnley and Hull City respectively. However, it is believed the Liverpool legend is far from done and wants to add even more experience to his squad.
And that’s because, according to a report in The Scottish Sun, Gerrard is keen on landing striker Jermain Defoe from AFC Bournemouth on a one-year loan deal.
The 35-year-old is just one season into his three-year contract at Vitality Stadium but failed to make much of an impact on the South Coast this term, having netted just four times in 24 Premier League appearances.
And with Cherries chief Eddie Howe reportedly willing to allow the former England forward a move this summer, it’s a deal which could well be struck during the close season, and one that is sure to intrigue and perhaps delight our resident Rangers fans.
Landlord’s Verdict: The striker has proven to be a prolific goalscorer in the English top-flight, and as such would prove to be a useful addition at Ibrox should he join.
The former England international could be interested in joining up with his former national team-mate, and could prove to be a gamechanger for the Scottish Premiership side as they aim to finally end Old Firm rivals Celtic’s reign at the top of the table.
