Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern finally have something to smile about as Steven Gerrard put pen to paper on a four-year-deal to take the vacant managers job at Ibrox.
The former Liverpool captain was instilled as the favourite to take over following Graeme Murty’s dismissal after the 5-0 defeat against Celtic. Gerrard has managed Liverpool’s U18 side this season with Rangers being his first venture in senior management.
Gerrard has a massive task on his hands if he is to end the dominance of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. The ex-England captain will not be able to bring Brendan Rodgers’ side down without significant investment in the summer. Indeed, Rangers’ squad is in desperate need of some new faces.
Signing a new number one should be high on Gerrard’s priority list with Wes Foderingham rumoured to be nearing an exit. The Gers are reportedly set to cash in on the shot-stopper amidst interest from Championship clubs.
To replace him, Rangers should sign Joe Hart. Currently on loan at West Ham from Manchester City, Hart quickly found himself out of favour in Manchester following the arrival of Pep Guardiola. The England international is valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt and would be a tremendous signing for the Gers.
Despite his criticisms, the 31-year-old is still a top goalkeeper and has amassed a vast amount of experience in the Premier League and with the Three Lions. Rangers would face competition from a host of Premier League clubs for his signature, but the opportunity to play under his former international captain could prove tempting.
Rangers fans, would Joe Hart be a good signing? Let us know!
