According to TEAMtalk, Glasgow Rangers are interested in signing former West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino.
The Burundi international left Stoke City in 2019, joining Belgian side Zulte Waregem. Now, after scoring eight goals in 22 matches so far this campaign, he is said to be of interest to the ‘Gers, who could lose Alfredo Morelos this summer. Celtic have also been mentioned as potential suitors.
There is no doubting that Berahino is a controversial figure. He has already received a drugs ban, which he has blamed on being spiked at a nightclub. He was also consistently accused of poor performances in training as well as tardiness during the end of Mark Hughes’ spell with the Potters.
However, at his best, Berahino is a striker who can cut it in the top flight. During the 2014/15 season, he scored 20 times in all competitions for the Baggies and became the subject of intense interest from Tottenham – they had four bids rejected, with the last of those reaching £23m.
Would you like to sign Saido Berahino?
In Belgium, the 26-year-old has rediscovered his form ever so slightly with those eight goals. It would be interesting to see how much he would cost but, given his £2.7m Transfermarkt value, it should not be for ridiculous money. As he begins to rediscover his form, Steven Gerrard may be able to polish a rough diamond were Berahino to make the move to Ibrox.
