Glasgow Rangers: Fans react to court decision to block Ligue 1 relegation - Rangers

Glasgow Rangers were understandably fuming when the Scottish Premiership was cancelled last month.

As it happened, the SPFL decided that the top four Scottish divisions were unable to continue as it was no longer considered safe to do so in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Celtic were crowned champions as a result, and Hearts were subsequently relegated to the Championship.

Predictably, the premature end to the season has resulted in plenty of twists and turns, including James Anderson’s emergency cash fund and the ‘Gers accusing the SPFL of corruption, but Neil Doncaster has dismissed all speculation so far.

Nevertheless, the Daily Mail reported that UEFA are willing for Ligue 1 to resume as the season could be decided with a series of play-offs. Furthermore, a number of French clubs including Lyon, Amiens and Toulouse launched an appeal to the Conseil d Etat, and many Light Blues supporters were keeping an eye on proceedings in the hopes that a legal argument could also be used in their favour.

However, while France’s highest administrative court ruled that relegation for Amiens and Toulouse would be suspended, the judges ruled in favour of the French authorities and dismissed Lyon’s claim that the season was ended early (Sky Sports).

Even so, lots of RFC fans reacted to the court’s verdict on social media, with one supporter branding the Scottish governing body’s decision a “scam” and another urging the club to “sue the SPFL” despite the ruling.
