Glasgow Rangers have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Pedro Chirivella, with Foot sur 7 saying that FC Nantes have already completed his signature.
The Gers were said to have been interested in a move for the Spaniard, but the Ligue 1 outfit were also heavily linked.
Now, it looks as though the Ibrox side have come out second best. Whilst it has not been confirmed by the club themselves, Foot sur 7 say that it is already a done deal – Chirivella is a Nantes player.
Last season, many may not have even known who Chirivella was, but he has become more of a familiar name over the last year. He has appeared six times in the cup competitions for Liverpool throughout the campaign, and even wore the captain’s armband for the match against Aston Villa in the League Cup.
Would you like to sign Pedro Chirivella?
At 22 years of age, and already known to Gerrard following his spell as manager of the club’s U18s, there are plenty of reasons as to why the £585,000-valued man – as per Transfermarkt – would have been an interesting signing for the club. Nantes, though, have won the race it seems, meaning that Gerrard and Ross Wilson will be left to lick their wounds.
The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell has said that the Gers could be in the market for a central midfielder with vision, which Chirivella undoubtedly has. As he showed against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup, he is comfortable in possession – he had a pass accuracy of 85.1% and also made an assist. That is something that the 54-time Scottish champions could do with.
