Finally, Ianis Hagi is officially a Glasgow Rangers player.
The 10-cap Romania international joined the club on loan from Genk in January and went on to score three goals in 12 matches before the season in Scotland was brought to a premature end. The ‘Gers were said to have a €5m (£4.5m) purchase option in the short-term agreement from the start of the year and that has given the Ibrox outfit the opportunity to sign him permanently.
Hagi took to Instagram (@ianishagi) following confirmation of the deal and shared his delight with the transfer to the 54-time Scottish champions whilst also thanking all of those at former club Genk for the way they treated him there.

I’m extremely happy and proud to be part of the @RangersFC family and represent the colours of such a huge club permanently. I can’t wait to meet up with the boys, play at Ibrox again and keep enjoying moments with our amazing fans! 💙🤍 I also want to thank @krcgenkofficial and the supporters for the help and affection that you have shown me. I wish you the best of luck. #faith
Unsurprisingly, many ‘Gers fans sounded absolutely ecstatic with his switch in the replies to Hagi’s post – they appear to believe that this could be a player to fire them to a first piece of major silverware since 2011.
Will Rangers win the league next season?
There is a lot of expectation on the youngster’s shoulders. It is now up to him to prove that such belief in him is well-founded.
