Peru’s technical director Juan Carlos Oblitas has said that Glasgow Rangers target Renato Tapia has already agreed a move to his next club.
The 24-year-old currently plays for Feyenoord, but his contract is set to run out at the end of this campaign, which means that he can be signed as a free agent. The Peru international was linked with a move to Ibrox, with his father even confirming the interest, and now Oblitas says that he has already decided on his future.
Speaking to Ovacion (via The Daily Record), he said:
“Tapia is going to get a team and what’s more, I think he already has.
“I don’t want to say who it is though because he still has a contract until the end of the month.
“I feel calm when it comes to him.”
Despite not being a household name, Tapia has plenty of credentials that indicate he would be a stellar signing for Steven Gerrard. He already has 53 caps for his country, even featuring at the 2018 World Cup, whilst he also played in every game as Peru reached the Copa America final last summer. At club level, he has perhaps not reached the same heights, but with 15 appearances in the Eredivisie and eight in the Europa League, he featured regularly throughout the campaign before it was brought to a premature close.
Would you like to sign Renato Tapia?
Currently valued at £2.16m by Transfermarkt, having the opportunity to sign him on a free transfer would be one that Gerrard and Ross Wilson would be silly to miss out on. They must hope that he has decided to make the move to the blue side of Glasgow.
