Renato Tapia’s father has revealed that his son has not agreed to sign for Celtic Vigo, whilst he has also confirmed that Glasgow Rangers are interested in his services.
The ‘Gers have been linked with the Feyenoord midfielder, who has 53 caps for Peru despite being just 24 years of age – he made two appearances at the World Cup in 2018, whilst he also appeared in every single match of his nation’s run to the Copa America final last summer. [via Transfermarkt]
Speaking about the future of his son, Luis Tapia explained:
“I’ve read the reports saying that Renato has agreed to sign for Celta Vigo and they are not true.
“There are a number of clubs interested in him, including both Celtic and Rangers from Scotland and Angers in France.
“For the moment, he will see his contract out with Feyenoord and will continue to train there.”
This is great news for the Ibrox outfit, especially with his contract soon to run out with the Dutch outfit. The defensive midfielder has plenty of strings to his bow, with him also able to play at centre-back and in a more advanced midfield role, whilst his 85.5% pass accuracy this term in the Eredivisie shows that he is comfortable in possession.
Would you like to sign Renato Tapia?
Currently valued by Transfermarkt at £2.16m, signing him on a free would be some coup for Ross Wilson and co. It is therefore essential that the ‘Gers do all they can to secure his services as they look to close the gap to Celtic at the top of the Premiership next term.
