Dundee United sporting director Tony Ashgar has said that the club will “have to look” at any bids that come in for reported Glasgow Rangers target Lawrence Shankland.
The Gers have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old since as far back as December, when they were said to have kept an eye on his services during the whole season up until that point. The fans have also urged the Ibrox outfit’s powers that be to move for Shankland.
Now, Ashgar appears to have opened the door a little for the 54-time Scottish champions. Talking to BBC Scotland, he said that they will look at any bids that come in for the prolific frontman.
Shankland had been in stunning form in the campaign just gone in the Scottish Championship. He managed 24 goals in 26 matches at that level, whilst he scored two in two in the Scottish Cup. Overall, he racked up an impressive record of 26 goals in 29 games.
This is not a one-off, either. He scored 34 times in 41 matches the term before, whilst he bagged 27 in 32 during the 2017/18 season – that term, he also contributed with 16 assists.
There is a question mark over his ability to perform in the top tier though. His showings for Queen’s Park convinced Aberdeen to sign him on a free transfer in 2013, but he failed to hit the back of the net even once in 17 top flight appearances.
That was several years ago however and he has since become a better player, so much so that he is now a full Scotland international, scoring once in two appearances (Transfermarkt).
Would you like to sign Lawrence Shankland?
With a Transfermarkt value of just £428,000, he is hardly like to break the bank, even with Dundee likely to demand more than that. As the Gers look to close a 13-point lead at the top to Celtic, Steven Gerrard needs all the help he can get and it seems that Shankland has now come of age and could be a real asset at Ibrox.
