Glasgow Rangers: ‘Gers are interested in Benson Manuel - Rangers

According to VoetbalNieuws, Glasgow Rangers are said to be interested in signing Royal Antwerp’s Benson Manuel.

The report says that, along with their interest in Zulte Waregem forward Saido Berahino, the ‘Gers are also eyeing a move for right-winger Manuel, who also plays in the Belgian league.

WHO IS THE PLAYER?

However, the report also claimed that Royal Antwerp manager Ivan Leko is not too keen to part with the 23-year-old, with him only recently having joined from Genk – he is a former teammate of Ianis Hagi.

Manuel has impressed in Belgium. He was signed by Genk in 2017 after scoring eight goals and providing eight assists during the 2016/17 campaign and a loan spell at Royal Excel Mouscron, where he managed six strikes and nine assists in 28 matches, again displayed his ability from the flanks.

He failed to net in 16 matches for Genk, though, and only has one in 16 matches for his new club after signing last summer but, at 23 he still has plenty of time to rediscover the level he has previously shown. Steven Gerrard will lose Sheyi Ojo, who has featured regularly on the right wing, with Hagi filling in there more recently despite being an attacking midfielder.

Blessed with pace, the £2.16m-valued ace – as per Transfermarkt – could be exactly what Gerrard is looking for. Hagi – who is reportedly close to confirming his permanent move to Ibrox – and Alfredo Morelos already have the potential to be a lethal partnership up front. Throwing Manuel into the mix would only increase Gerrard’s offensive options.
