Glasgow Rangers could have been given a boost in their hopes of signing Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes this summer.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, the 24-year-old is a transfer target for Steven Gerrard in the upcoming transfer window and he has now has his say on his hopes for the future with comments that hint at plenty of ambition from the player.
The Scottish Sun have reported Dykes as saying: “I’m really enjoying my time at Livi. But I’m also confident I can push on and reach an even higher level at a bigger club.”
The Light Blues’ interest in Dykes has been fuelled by his excellent season at Livingston, with 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 matches in all competitions and nine of those goals coming in the Premiership as the Lions finished a commendable fifth after the season was abandoned last month.
The ‘Gers are in the hunt for a reliable centre-forward this summer amid transfer speculation surrounding top scorer Alfredo Morelos, who according to Leicestershire Live has been linked with a number of English Premier League clubs.
If the Colombian goes, that would leave only 38-year-old Jermain Defoe as a potent centre-forward option at Ibrox, so it is imperative that Gerrard has a reliable goal-poacher lined up in preparation for the possible loss of his leading marksman.
Dykes’ comments about wanting to “push on and reach an even higher level at a bigger club” than Livingston should be music to the ears of the Ibrox hierarchy, with the 24-year-old making a clear statement about his desire to test himself at a higher level.
The ‘Gers can offer him European football and a realistic shot at a Premiership title, while The Scottish Sun indicated that a fee of just £2m could be sufficient to bring him to the club. That is a small sum to pay for a proven goalscorer in this league who should be the ideal answer to what could become a problem position, and at an economical price.
Can you see the 'Gers making a move for Lyndon Dykes this summer?
All things considered, the Light Blues have plenty of cards that they can play in trying to lure the ambitious Dykes to Ibrox and they must seek to utilise every one of them.
