Glasgow Rangers striker Jermain Defoe says that Ianis Hagi and Calvin Bassey can be “massive” for the Gers this coming campaign.
The duo are the Ibrox outfit’s first two signings of the transfer window ahead of the new season. Bassey was signed on a free transfer from Leicester City, whilst Hagi was signed permanently from Genk for £3m after scoring three goals in 12 matches whilst on loan during the second half of the previous term.
Speaking to Rangers TV (via The Daily Record), Defoe said:
“I’m looking forward to seeing these young players and I’m sure those two names you mentioned (Bassey and Ianis Hagi) will be massive for us this season in trying to achieve something special.”
Whilst Bassey and Hagi will be looking to make an impact in their first full seasons north of the border, Steven Gerrard will be looking to £1.26m-valued Defoe – as per Transfermarkt – to put in some big performances for his side as well. The former England international may already be 37 years old, but he still managed to net 17 times last term, more than any of his teammates other than Alfredo Morelos.
Will Rangers win the league next season?
As the Gers look to dethrone Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, his experience along with Bassey’s and Hagi’s youthful exuberance could make all the difference.
