Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Glasgow Rangers are looking to make more signings, with the focus on making the starting XI stronger rather than the squad bigger.
The ‘Gers have already brought in three new recruits this transfer window, with goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin joining Ianis Hagi and Calvin Bassey at Ibrox. It is another boost to add to the good news of the past few days, when the club announced that they had already sold 32,000 season tickets for the upcoming campaign.
“It’s going to be an unusual transfer window, a unique one. We are still waiting to find out the exact dates when it will start and end and in what form.
“So it might have to be a case of being patient while some leagues are still playing and clubs are not in a position to make decisions.
“The important thing is we are ready in terms of who we have identified. Throughout lockdown, we have been going through all the lists. We know the areas we want to improve.
“I don’t think there will be much volume in terms of new signings. It will be more a case of who we bring in to strengthen the eleven.”
This is good news for the ‘Gers, who are attempting to close a 13-point gap to Celtic at the top of the Premiership, and the only way they are going to do that is by adding more options to their squad. The fact they are looking at the first XI means that they are only seeking to bring in ready-made players from this point onward rather than simply buffering up the squad numbers.
Will Rangers win the league this season?
It really is now or never for Gerrard – he cannot afford to go a third season without a trophy. By the sounds of it, the club will do all they can to help him clinch that first piece of silverware.
