According to Voetbal International (via The Daily Record), Glasgow Rangers are interested in making a move for Feyenoord’s Renato Tapia.
The 24-year-old is out of contract this summer, which has peaked the interest of the Gers.
However, they are not the only side to be interested in his services. Celtic are also said to have him on their radar, whilst Real Betis were mentioned in the report, as well.
The 53-time Peru international is a defensive midfielder, a position currently held by Glen Kamara at Ibrox. The 23-year-old was signed from Dundee for the paltry fee of £50,000 and has since gone on to make 55 appearances in all competitions for the Gers.
However, Ligue 1 side Marseille have been linked with a €10m (£9m) move for Kamara and, should he depart, that would leave a spot open for Tapia in a defensive midfield role for Gerrard’s side. With just seven Eredivisie starts to his name this term, it has not been the best campaign of his career in the Netherlands, but he averaged a WhoScored rating of over seven during a loan spell at Willem II, as well as with the Rotterdam-based outfit during the 2017/18 season.
Would you like to sign Renato Tapia?
Regularly averaging over two tackles per game and a passing accuracy of over 84%, the £2.16m-valued man – as per Transfermarkt – clearly has quality, whilst his appearances at the Copa America and the World Cup show he has played at the highest level. On a free transfer, signing him could prove to be a stunning piece of business from Ross Wilson.
