Glasgow Rangers and the rest of Scottish football are already preparing for the upcoming season.
That isn’t the case south of the border, though – England’s top tier is still in the thick of the 2019/20 campaign. There are still seven games left for teams in the Premier League but that hasn’t stopped Liverpool already claiming the title after accruing a 23-point lead at the top of the table.
The Reds won the title thanks to Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City last night, with Christian Pulisic and Willian scoring either side of a stunning Kevin De Bruyne free kick. That result led to eruptions of joy among the Liverpool players and supporters – they have now won their first league title in 30 years.
On Twitter, the club’s official accounts joined in on the fun, and the club’s USA-based page on the social media platform made the point that no asterisk was needed for this title. This attracted the attention of plenty of ‘Gers supporters, who took this a sign to the SPFL that the Scottish Premiership could have been finished on the pitch as well.
Should the 2019/20 Premiership campaign have been finished on the pitch?
