Glasgow Rangers target Ivan Toney has told his friends he wants to leave Peterborough this summer, according to Football Insider.
The Gers are said to be interested in the 24-year-old striker, who could cost them £10m. However, they are likely to face lots of competition for his signature with both Celtic and West Bromwich Albion also reportedly keen on the ex-Newcastle United front man.
Now, it appears that Toney is dead-set on leaving his current club this summer, which can only be good news for Ross Wilson and co.
Toney was in terrific form before the League One campaign was prematurely ended, scoring 24 goals in 32 matches in the division, making him the top scorer. However, it looks like he may have played his last game for the Posh, especially if he is now actively looking to depart the third-tier side.
Would you like to sign Ivan Toney?
£10m is still a huge fee for the Gers to part with, and they will need to do some negotiating if they are to sign him, but Toney’s stance puts them in a far stronger position and gives them more leverage. If a player wants to leave, any owner will risk dressing room disharmony if they force a star asset to stay.
It remains to be seen whether Steven Gerrard can convince him to make the move north of the border, but this is a step in the right direction.
