Three defeats to bitter rivals Celtic thus far have done little to make the Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern feel confident about catching up with the Bhoys any time soon, such is the strength of their Glasgow rivals.
Still, rather than focusing on the vast gulf in class between the two right now, perhaps the Gers would be better served focusing their attentions solely on Ibrox, as they begin their own rebuild in Scotland’s top tier under Mark Warburton.
If they are going to close the gap on the Hoops, there’s little doubt they desperately need to keep a hold of their young talents, before even thinking about bringing in big names.
Which is why they need to do literally all they can to keep Barrie McKay. The 22-year-old has recently been talked up by Scotland international Oliver Burke for a big move away one day, though the RB Leipzig man should be ignored.
Mark Warburton’s job to keep up with those in green and white is hard enough and the former Brentford coach absolutely cannot have his hands tied by the risk of losing his brightest Ibrox talents.
Clearly, the Gers have to be realistic considering the place of Scottish football in the wider aspect of Europe, though the one-cap Scotland international is surely a talent upon which they need to build for future success.
The Paisley-born attacker is absolutely vital to Rangers and could well become the poster-boy for their new project, so it’s vital they ignore Oliver Burke.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
