Rangers supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team come from behind to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup with a 6-1 thrashing of third tier side Ayr United on Sunday.
Graeme Murty’s men overcame Highland League outfit Fraserburgh in the previous round to set up a meeting with Ian McCall’s side in Ayrshire, and the Scottish League One club threatened an upset as Alan Forrest gave them an 11th minute lead. Yet that only served to spur the Gers on as braces from Alfredo Morelos and Josh Windass as well as strikes from Jason Cummings and Jamie Murphy sealed a routine victory for the Scottish giants, thus earning them a spot in the last eight where they will face Falkirk.
Consequently, there have been many delighted Rangers fans in the Tavern in the last few days, although they are unlikely to be overly thrilled by a recent report from Football Insider, which suggests that Beijing Renhe are readying an improved bid for influential ace Morelos.
The 21-year-old only made the move to Ibrox during the summer but has hit the ground running with 15 goals in just 30 games in all competitions, 11 goals of which coming in their run to third place in the Scottish Premiership table.
As such, the Colombian star attracted interest during the January transfer window from Chinese Super League side Beijing Renhe, who reportedly launched an £8 million bid for the forward, only for it to be turned down by the Rangers hierarchy.
Yet recent reports suggest that the Chinese top-flight outfit are readying an improved offer of £9 million for Morelos, and with their transfer window open until the end of the month, that is another bid sure to test the resolve of the Gers board.
Landlord’s verdict: Alfredo Morelos has been in wonderful form for Rangers this term, netting 15 goals in just 30 appearances since joining the club in the summer.
And Beijing Renhe reportedly launched a big money offer to try and prize the 21-year-old away from Ibrox during January, only for the reported £8 million bid to be rejected by the Gers in news which came as a surprise to many given their recent financial struggles.
Yet recent reports suggest that Rangers’ resolve will be tested again as the Chinese Super League side are reportedly readying a £9 million bid for the Colombian star, what with there still a few weeks to go in their transfer window.
Thus, it looks set to be a testing end to February for the Light Blues in their bid to keep on their star assets for the rest of the season.
