Rangers have a huge task ahead of them to catch current champions Celtic, who last season won another treble. Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is the man appointed to try and bridge the gap.
A third place finished last season, still no win in a Glasgow derby in years, and there is understandably a low mood at Ibrox. The arrival of Steven Gerrard has lifted spirits somewhat, but there is much work to be done. There just seems like there is not the talent at the club at this point in time to challenge for trophies, and Gerrard needs to recruit wisely.
Gerrard has so far added Canadian international Scott Arfield from Burnley, a good calibre of player. Rangers need more players of Arfield’s qualities in order to progress.
Swedish international Isaac Kliese Thelin, rated at £2.7m by Transfermarkt, would be the perfect signing for Rangers. The Anderlecht player spent last season on loan at Waasland-Beveren in the Belgian top flight, where he netted 19 league goals.
Thelin would add a focal point to the Rangers attack. He is a physical 6ft 2 striker who will bring down the ball and bring others into play, chase lost causes, and crucially chip in with plenty of goals himself. The 26-year-old has netted twice in 24 appearances for his national side.
The front line is where Rangers have really lacked in recent campaigns. Josh Windass shows good promise, and definitely has ability, but to see the best out of him Rangers must play him alongside a player like Thelin. Thelin is great at doing the hard running, and bringing others into play. Windass is simply too lightweight to lead the line on his own, Thelin would be a great focal point for the Rangers attack.
The Gers should drop everything to sign the £2.7m rated star.
