Steven Gerrard has been busy in the transfer market so far this summer.
The new Rangers boss has added nine new players to his Gers squad in a bid to overthrow Celtic’s stranglehold on the league. He’s added Lassana Coulibaly and Umar Sadiq on loan to bolster his attacking options, while in defence he’s brought in Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic to sure up the back.
It may seem that Gerrard might be close to finishing his summer business, Sky Sports News is reporting that he remains keen to add to his defensive ranks and has upped his bid for Millwall defender, Jake Cooper with Bruno Alves set to join Parma. According to the report, Millwall are keen to keep hold of the young defender, which has caused Rangers to make a second bid of £3 million.
Cooper was an important player for Millwall last season making 38 appearances for the club in their first season since their return to the Championship. The powerful defender helped Millwall form the third-best defence in the Championship and would be an impressive addition to Gerrard’s squad.
A move for the defender would make perfect sense for Gerrard. Last season Rangers conceded 50 goals last season, the highest among the top six.
At £3 million, Copper would represent one of the club’s more expensive signings but he’d also be the best. The Glasgow club need a solid defence next season if they are to take the title away from Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side.
So what do you think Rangers fans?
