Loads of fans love it as Ally McCoist spills the beans on Rangers episode - Rangers

Former Rangers player and manager Ally McCoist has been discussing his time at Ibrox and shared a brilliant story about a bust-up he had with ex-England midfielder Paul Gascoigne.

When talking on the Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT, the 57-year-old was reminiscing about the 1996 Scottish League Cup final in which the Gers beat Hearts 4-3 at Celtic Park.

After Gascoigne misplaced two passes intended for the Scot and threw his arms in the air as if to blame his teammate, McCoist claims that he went up to the Geordie and “grabbed him by the scruff of the neck” before telling him not to try and make a fool of him in front of such a big crowd (talkSPORT).

This then turned into something of a ruckus with players and officials trying to separate the duo. Shortly after, the half-time whistle went and they continued their argument in the dressing room.

Manager Walter Smith soon got fed up with Gazza’s chirping and according to McCoist, the Scottish boss picked the midfielder up and hung him on a coat peg, telling him to shut up.

Things then calmed down but before going out for the second half, apparently, Gascoigne ran to the director’s room and helped himself to a whiskey. Then after listening to Smith’s team talk, he went out for the second period and certainly responded well, scoring two goals to help Rangers win the cup.
