Making move for Ademola Lookman could turn out to be a Rangers masterstroke

Rangers supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been in fine voice in recent times after seeing their side take a big step towards the group stages of the Europa League courtesy of a 1-0 win over Ufa in the first leg of their play-off clash on Thursday.

Steven Gerrard’s men have made serene progress through the qualifying rounds in easing past Shkupi, NK Osijek, and Maribor to reach the play-off round, with Russian side Ufa standing in their way of a return to the group stages of European competition for the first time since 2010. And the Light Blues will take a narrow lead into the away leg next week as a Connor Goldson goal was enough to seal the win at Ibrox on Thursday night, thus leaving the Gers 90 minutes away from the Europa League group stages.

As such, there are many thrilled Light Blues supporters up and down the country in recent times, although some still feel that further reinforcements are needed in certain areas of the squad between now and the close of the window.

And following the injury to Jamie Murphy last weekend, more attacking strength appears needed, which is why they should make an ambitious loan move for £10.8 million-rated Premier League outcast Ademola Lookman (as per Transfermarkt), a deal which could turn out to be a transfer masterstroke.

Ultimately, the 20-year-old has found first team football hard to come by since moving to Everton back in January 2017, with just 24 senior appearances to his name in the last 18 months or so.

In fact, the England Under-20 World Cup winner instigated a loan move to RB Leipzig earlier this year in a bid for regular football, and he certainly produced the goods there with five goals and four assists in just 11 games for the Bundesliga outfit – clearly, Lookman has huge potential.

And with first team football seemingly unlikely at Everton this season, what with the 20-year-old having yet to feature under new manager Marco Silva, another move could be in the offing, and Rangers must seek to make an ambitious loan offer to lure him north of the border.

His spell in Germany last season underlined just how much talent and indeed present ability Lookman has in the attacking ranks, while the fact that he netted minutes into his Everton debut against Manchester City suggests that very little fazes him.

Although it would be an ambitious move, what with the likes of Leipzig reportedly keen on his services and likely to offer him football in an arguably more competitive league than Rangers, the chance to be part of a revolution at Ibrox under Gerrard, at the same time accruing key minutes on the pitch, may well be of interest to the Englishman.

And with Murphy out for the rest of the season, Gerrard could well be looking to add further attacking depth to his ranks, as the Scotland international played a key part in their run to third place in the Scottish Premiership last time round – Lookman has the ability to compensate for that injury blow.

As such, while it would be something of a long shot, Gerrard should seek to lure the 20-year-old to Ibrox on loan, with his ability and potential combining to suggest that his arrival could prove to be something of a transfer masterstroke.
