Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern will be wanting the club’s future sorted out quickly as they prepare for a summer to rebuild and could see a decision be made in a key area fairly soon.
Graeme Murty’s position as interim manager has come under scrutiny in the past month or so, with the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Old Firm rivals Celtic putting even more pressure on the Englishman.
Murty, who took over from Pedro Caixinha seven months ago, was the subject of a disagreement between some of his players after the defeat to the Bhoys two weekends ago, seeing Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace suspended internally. Andy Halliday also made remarks towards the manager during the game when he was substituted off in the first-half for tactical reasons.
The Scottish Sun are now claiming that his reign as Ibrox chief could be over in the summer with the Gers targeting Steven Gerrard to take over the helm. The former Liverpool legend has successfully guided his Under-18 side and has impressed many onlookers.
It is believed the Light Blues have already held talks with him and a deal could be close to being completed, with Gerrard undaunted by the size of the task should he be handed it.
The Rangers fans in the Tavern will be sceptical to see how Gerrard performs as a manager with no experience in the senior game, however, a name like his could help to attract a number of high-profile players to Ibrox and help them finally challenge their Old Firm rivals once again.
