Rangers fans will be over the moon as the Gers smashed St. Johnstone 5-1 at Ibrox.
With rivals Celtic losing late against Kilmarnock, Steven Gerrard’s side took full advantage to move one point clear of the Hoops in the SPFL. James Tavernier and Alfredo Morelos netted first-half goals to give Gerrard’s team the lead at the interval. Second-half strikes from Kyle Lafferty, Scott Arfield and Daniel Candeias ensured a memorable victory.
The result leaves Rangers just five points behind league leaders Hearts – but the Ibrox faithful will be pleased to see their side net so many goals. With the Gers also drawing their Europa League opener, confidence will be high heading into their next fixtures. Games will be coming thick and fast so Gerrard must attempt to seek potential recruits who could improve the side in the January window.
One man they should be keeping tabs on is Manchester United starlet – Mason Greenwood. The 16-year-old is widely regarded as one of the most promising youngsters emerging from the club’s youth academy. Greenwood has been in fine form for United’s U18 side, managed by Kieran McKenna, scoring 23 goals in 23 appearances.
His recent hat-trick has left United fans licking their lips, many are hopeful that Greenwood could follow Marcus Rashford in transitioning to the first-team. However, a loan move may be best for his development and Gerrard should aim to be first in line for his signature. A player of the Englishman’s potential could be a great addition to his side and give the Scottish giants another dimension in attack.
If Greenwood is available, Rangers need to snap him up.
