Rangers fans here in the Tavern are hoping to receive no more negative injury news, as the Old Firm clash is just around the corner for the Bluenoses.
The Gers have been the form Scottish Premiership team over the last six games, but our local residents would do anything to swap their recent run of results for a victory in the Old Firm derby. Although, multiple squad absences have been dampening the hopes of many in the build-up to the clash, and it looks as if the injury curse has claimed its next victim, as according to reports in the Scottish Sun, Jamie Murphy is a major doubt for next weekend’s Old Firm clash.
The 28-year-old is a major doubt for the game against Celtic on the 11th of March after limping off with a foot injury in last night’s win over St. Johnstone. Indeed, the 4-1 victory at McDiarmid Park saw the Scotsman leave the game furious at some of the challenges he faced, after a late tackle from Matty Willock caused the damage to Murphy’s foot.
“He [Murphy] took a sore one.
“He’s angry about some of the tackles.
“I don’t want to jinx anything by saying how bad it might be.
“We will assess it, we will try and be calm about it and we will make sure that he will get the requisite care.”
Indeed, this comes as a second injury blow following a potential ailment to left-back Declan Johnson.
Of course, with the Old Firm match on the horizon for the Bluenoses, this couldn’t have come at a worse time, as a win over the Hoops could see Rangers mount a last-minute title bid. But, the main thing that our local residents care about is having the bragging rights in Glasgow, with an emphatic win at Ibrox going a long way to silencing the Celtic faithful.
Graeme Murty’s comments suggest that they could be without Jamie Murphy for the rest of the season, as the Scotsman looks set for a period out on the sidelines. And, heading into the Old Firm derby without the on-loan Brighton star in their ranks will be a huge blow, having produced three goals in his last four appearances for the Gers.
