As per Football Insider, the powers that be at Glasgow Rangers expect Alfredo Morelos to leave this summer – but they will likely receive £15m at the most despite their previous hopes of £25m-£30m.
Morelos has previously been linked with a move away from Ibrox, with the likes of Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund mentioned as potential suitors.
Whilst he may be an important player for Steven Gerrard, it appears that the club expect him to leave this summer, although they will not receive the same fee they are looking for.
Losing the 23-year-old would be a huge blow for Gerrard. After all, Morelos managed 29 goals in all competitions last term, whilst he has managed 77 in 137 games since making the switch to Scotland in 2017 from HJK Helsinki – without a doubt, he has been a stunning purchase.
Having said that, he was always going to leave – it is particularly difficult for clubs north of the border to keep hold of their star talents. As good as he has been, £30m was always going to be a bit of a stretch – that would make him the most expensive player in the history of Scottish football. However, to see that halved would be a blow to Ross Wilson and co.
Will Morelos be at Rangers next season?
Still, his exit would give Gerrard plenty of funds to work with in regards to other parts of his side whilst still looking to bring in a prolific centre-forward – don’t forget that Morelos cost the Gers just £1.08m. With a 13-point gap to try and close at the top, he could do with all the help he can get.
