Murty delivers bad news for Rangers despite recent run of good form

Rangers fans here in the Tavern are delighted with last night’s victory against St. Johnstone, as they extended their unbeaten streak to five games in all competitions.

Graeme Murty’s side took another step towards securing European football for next season, after inflicting a heavy 4-1 defeat on St. Johnstone in a match that saw Rangers dominate from the off. Although, this definitely made up for the bad news that our local residents received before the game, with Declan John left out of the side for precautionary reasons. Indeed, according to a pre-match interview with Graeme Murty on Rangers’ official Twitter account, Declan John missed the game after picking up a groin injury.

The Welshman was replaced by Andy Halliday in the Gers’ starting XI after feeling some discomfort in his groin during a training session on Monday. And, it appears that a return date hasn’t been pencilled in for the 22-year-old just yet, after Murty confirmed that the defender will be assessed “later on”. Although, with the all-important Old Firm clash coming up on the 11th of March, many supporters are praying that John can make a swift recovery to be in the side for the grudge match.

But, here’s a closer look at exactly what the Rangers chief had to say about the defender’s injury:

“Declan felt a little discomfort in his groin yesterday, so it’s precautionary and we’re going to take him out of the line-up and we’re just going to assess him later on.”

Indeed, this won’t go down too well with many of our local die-hard supporters here in the Tavern, as Declan John has become a fan favourite in most parts of Glasgow after producing an impressive first season with the Bluenoses.

Landlord’s Verdict:

The defender has been a revelation so far this season at Ibrox, having developed into one of the standout players in the squad. Although, news of an injury to John ahead of their Old Firm clash will be a huge blow, as fans wait on anxiously to hear the exact time they’ll be without the Welshman’s services. But, with Andy Halliday producing an impressive performance in an emphatic win last night, it doesn’t look as if the Gers will struggle too much without him.
