Murty needs to unleash Rangers’ new star today if they want to win the Scottish Cup

The Rangers fans here in the Transfer Tavern are excited about their Scottish Cup trip to Ayr United today. Indeed, with the league out of sight, the fact that at least some chinks in Celtic’s armour has caused a sense of optimism to emerge amongst our resident Gers.

Now, they hope Graeme Murty can focus all his attention on the Scottish Cup, in an effort to stop their greatest rivals from winning two trebles in a row. In order to do so, they’ll need to win up in Ayrshire this afternoon, avoiding what would be a major upset.

With that in mind, Murty should finally unleash Greg Docherty. Ever since the 21-year-old helped Hamilton dispatch of the Light Blues with relative ease a few months ago, the punters propping up our bar have been itching to see him pull the strings in a Rangers midfield. Indeed, with better quality players surrounding Docherty, he could have a major say in a potential cup run at Ibrox.

Since signing, Docherty has had to wait for his chance, though today’s game at Somerset Park. Harder tests will surely come for the midfielder, though a strong showing while developing a real understanding with his teammates could be the start of something special.

If Rangers are going to win the Scottish Cup, Docherty will be crucial.
