Opinion: If Gerrard can lure Liverpool man to Rangers, he’s pulled off his biggest coup yet

Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern will be happy that boss Steven Gerrard has been quick to get down to work this summer. The Liverpool legend has already made seven signings so far and looks as though he’s already lining up his eighth.

The Scottish Mail is reporting that Gerrard will use his Liverpool connections to try and take Liverpool youth star, Ben Woodburn north of the border on loan.

Rangers have already tied up deals for Jon Flanagan, Allan Mcgregor, Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson, Scott Arfield, Ovie Ejaria and Jamie Murphy as Gerrard looks to bolster the squad for next season.

Gerrard will have firsthand experience of the young Welsh midfielder following his days managing the under-18s last season, where Woodburn starred, especially in the UEFA Youth League.

Already a full international for Wales, Woodburn is regarded as one of the best talents in England and Gerrard is looking to bring the youngster to Rangers on loan. If he can, then he’d have secured his biggest Ibrox coup yet.

According to the Mail, Gerrard is hoping to convince Jurgen Klopp that a loan move for the 18-year-old would be the crucial next step in his development going forward. At Liverpool since the age of 11 and capable of playing on the wing or as a 10, Woodburn only managed two appearances for the first-team last season and could benefit from added games in first-team football.

Liverpool have already sent Ovie Ejaria on loan for the season in search of games and Klopp may allow the Welsh youngster to join him at Rangers next season.
