Raid on Tottenham for Jaden Brown would hugely help Steven Gerrard solve Rangers LB issue

According to a recent report from Football Insider, reported Rangers target Jaden Brown may seek to leave Tottenham come the New Year. The 19-year-old has come up through the ranks at the Premier League outfit but has yet to play a senior game for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, and with the full back ranks well stocked at the North London club, it doesn’t look like that first team debut is in the offing anytime soon.

And reports suggest that the left back, who has been linked with a move to Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, may seek to leave Spurs in January, thus opening the door for a Gerrard raid on the Premier League side for the 19-year-old, which would thus aid the Gers chief in his quest to solve a key issue he has at Ibrox.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, the Liverpool legend was extremely busy during the summer overhauling the Light Blues squad in a bid to take them back towards the summit of Scottish football, with no fewer than 15 signings made by the 38-year-old to bolster various areas of his squad.

And one of those additions was left back Borna Barisic, only for the 26-year-old to struggle with injury in recent weeks, which has thus kept him out of each of their last seven Scottish Premiership matches, as well as their last three Europa League clashes.

And that has provoked a problem for Gerrard given he has very few options at his disposal, with Jon Flanagan, a right back by trade, filling in to varying degrees of effect at times this term, while Andy Halliday has shown promise having been given the task of deputising for Barisic in recent times.

Nonetheless, it’s pretty clear that Gerrard needs to bolster his left back ranks in the January window, and with Brown seemingly seeking a move away from Spurs, and Rangers having reportedly targeted him recently, it’s a move they must seek to make.

The 19-year-old has yet to feature in Pochettino’s first team at Tottenham but has been a regular for the club’s youth teams in years gone by, including ten appearances for the development squad in Premier League 2 this term.

And with caps at various youth levels for England in the last few years, it’s plainly obvious that Brown is set for a very bright future in the game, but getting into the Spurs team is proving difficult given the calibre of players Pochettino has to choose from in the full back department.

As such, it’s hardly surprising that he is thinking about a move away to launch his senior career – and with Rangers clearly in need of left back reinforcements, they could give him the perfect platform to get his professional career going.

Thus, not only would a raid on Spurs for the 19-year-old be in the best interests of the left back himself, but it would also be in the best interests of Gerrard and Rangers in aiding his quest to solve their left back issues.
