Rangers: Academy destroy Celtic as they progress to next round of Youth Cup

Rangers progressed to the next round of the Scottish Youth Cup after a 5-0 demolition of bitter rivals Celtic.

The academy side has had some outstanding results this season following their UEFA Youth League victory over Young Boys and their progression to the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup.

Of the goal-scorers Nathan Young-Coombes, Kai Kennedy and Leon King will be the names most familiar with fans of the Light Blues, the latter attracting attention in recent days despite being only 15-years old.  Liverpool, Chelsea and RB Leipzig have all been credited with an interest in an article in The Athletic via The Sun.

To avoid a similar situation which saw Billy Gilmour move to Chelsea, Rangers are looking to tie King down on a longer contract and have done likewise with other academy players like Josh McPake and Dapo Mebude.

Speculation linking one of their brightest prospects didn’t dampen the spirits of fans of the Ibrox side as they took to Twitter to celebrate such a resounding victory over their noisy neighbours.

The current crop of academy players coming out of the Hummel Training Centre are proving that the future is bright for Rangers, if they can keep a hold of them all.
