Rangers have not been performing well of late but results are still positive in the Premiership, keeping them close to rivals Celtic.
Steven Gerrard has already experienced the highs and lows of management in football, once being top of the league but then also being knocked out of the Europa League.
Despite the improvements Rangers have made under the Englishman, there is still a lot more that needs to be done in regards to bettering their team.
Rangers will feel the need to spend more during the January transfer window and improving their defence would be a very sensible idea.
Even though they have a number of options at centre-back, Derby’s Alex Pearce could better what is currently available to Steven Gerrard.
Pearce, (who is valued at £675k on Transfermarkt) has bags of experience having been a regular fixture in the Championship for some time now.
He was an important player at Reading, helping them to promotion in 2012 but since he joined Derby in 2015, Pearce has had to make do with little time on the pitch.
Frank Lampard has a number of options that he deems better than Alex Pearce, meaning he is some way down the pecking order right now.
It may be best for Derby and Rangers to agree a deal in January, with Pearce out of contract in the summer.
At 30-years-old, Alex Pearce still has plenty of time to offer a great deal to Rangers, with their leakage of goals continuing.
Steven Gerrard will be hoping his relationship with Frank Lampard is good enough to close a deal to see Alex Pearce move up to Ibrox in January.
Is that a good idea for Rangers… Let us know!
