Rangers supporters have been very downbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team’s faint Scottish Premiership title hopes all but banished courtesy of a 3-2 defeat in the Old Firm derby on Sunday.
Graeme Murty’s men went into their clash with leaders Celtic having won each of their preceding four league games, a run of form which moved the Gers into possible title contention ahead of Sunday’s derby at Ibrox. Yet their slim title chances have all but come to an end after defeat at the weekend, with Odsonne Edouard netting the winner in the second half at Ibrox after strikes from Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias for the Gers were cancelled out by Tom Rogic and Moussa Dembele in the opening period.
Thus, there have been many deflated Rangers fans in the Tavern in recent times, yet they are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Daily Record, which suggests that forward Eduardo Herrera could be set for a summer move away from Ibrox.
The 29-year-old was lured north of the border during last year’s summer window by ex-Light Blues chief Pedro Caixinha, but the Mexico international simply has not had a meaningful impact during his time with the club, netting just twice in 24 appearances this season.
And with no league appearances in 2018, it’s clear that the 29-year-old is low down on Murty’s pecking order, and reports suggest that he could be set to end his Rangers nightmare in the summer as Chivas are reportedly readying an enquiry for the forward’s services.
And given how little Herrera has contributed so far this season, this news is unlikely to faze Gers fans too greatly.
Landlord’s verdict: Eduardo Herrera was one of several players brought in by Pedro Caixinha during the summer window, and has been one of many to flop upon arrival at Rangers.
Just two goals in 24 appearances simply isn’t going to get the job done, and given he hasn’t featured in the Scottish Premiership in 2018, it’s clear that current boss Graeme Murty isn’t a huge fan at all.
And reports suggest that a summer move could be in the offing for the Mexico international as Chivas are reportedly readying an enquiry for the 29-year-old in a bid to end his nightmare in the Glasgow.
But give Herrera’s minimal impact in the last few months, this proposed deal is unlikely to disappoint Rangers fans too much.
