Rangers: Plenty of fans call for VAR after Edouard deflection causes handball controversy

Rangers couldn’t take their 1-0 lead into the break during the Old Firm derby on Sunday. Ryan Kent’s finish on 36 minutes was cancelled out by a shot deflected off Odsonne Edouard’s arm and into the goal. It’s safe to say Gers fans weren’t pleased, and some have called for VAR to be introduced in Scotland.

It’d be an understatement to say VAR’s implementation in the Premier League has been controversial, with marginal offside decisions such as Harry Kane’s disallowed goal on Boxing Day causing wide-spread anger among fans. VAR, if used properly, would have ruled out Edouard’s goal. For example, in the Premier League, Aymeric Laporte’s goal for Manchester City against Tottenham way back in August was disallowed for something similar.

Rangers posted the news of the goal on their Twitter account, simply saying “McGregor scores for Celtic with a deflected effort”. It was clear loads of fans were watching the game and saw the deflection, and many replied to demand VAR be implemented in the Scottish Premiership.

You can see some of their reactions to the tweet below:

Rangers fans, would you support VAR being implemented in the Scottish Premiership?
