Rangers winger Ryan Kent was singled out for criticism from some of the club’s fans on Twitter over his performance on Boxing Day.
The 23-year-old started for the seventh Premiership match in succession in the 1-0 win over Kilmarnock at Ibrox, playing for 78 minutes before being replaced by Steven Davis (as per BBC).
The former Liverpool winger came into the match in fine form, with four goals in his previous five league appearances, but was unable to add to his tally having scored in last week’s win at Hibernian. [via TransferMarkt]
The post-game assessments of Kent from reporters suggested that there was plenty of endeavour from the 23-year-old but little end product. James Black of Rangers News felt that he “threatened so much without ever really delivering in the first half”.
The 4th Official‘s Pratyay Maitra wrote of how he “failed to find the net despite being close on several occasions”, having had a couple of chances on the day. As noted in Herald Scotland by Matthew Lindsay, he missed the target with a second half header and drew a save from visitors’ goalkeeper Laurentiu Branescu.
Despite those attempts, these Rangers fans on Twitter felt short-changed by Kent’s display against Kilmarnock:
I’d drop Kent for Sunday. I’d actually thought he’d changed his name from Ryan Kent to Kent lost Possession. Hopeless again today.

I think part of my frustration is coming from Ryan Kent.
He needs to step up and be the link between the workers like Jack and Kamara and the forwards, be it, Morelos or Defoe.
He has the ability so it’s time to start showing it.

Ryan Kent needs to offer more. He’s our ball carrier but he isn’t carrying it! #RangersFC

Ryan Kent needs to give us more for his price tag aswell. Been average since he came back
