Wilson had been a target as far back as 2017 when Mark Allen was first appointed but the 36-year-old Scotsman decided the time wasn’t right for a move back north of the border.
During his tenure at Southampton, he has seen the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane leave the club for transfer fees of £75m and £34m respectively.
Mark Allen left abruptly but has been seen as having a successful tenure at the Ibrox club by not only improving the quality of the first-team squad but also the academy, women’s squad, the Hummel Training Centre and Ibrox.
Rangers fans took to Twitter to express their delight at what is seen by some as a coup in welcoming Wilson to the club.
A great appointment. 👏👏

Remember when Liverpool just straight up bought the entire Southampton squad and won the champions League? If the man can pick out some of those I’ll be happy
