Rangers supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been in fine voice in the last few hours after seeing their side reach the play-off round of the Europa League courtesy of a 3-1 aggregate victory over Maribor.
Steven Gerrard’s men eased past Shkupi and NK Osijek in the opening two qualifying rounds of Europe’s secondary competition to set up a meeting with the Slovenian outfit, who they beat 3-1 at Ibrox last week in the first leg to seize the initiative in the tie. And the Gers got the job done on Thursday by drawing 0-0 in Slovenia to remain unbeaten under new boss Gerrard, who will now seek to mastermind victory over Ufa in the play-off round next week.
Consequently, there are many thrilled Rangers fans up and down the country at present, several of whom have been looking back on last night’s game and heaping praise on goalkeeper Allan McGregor.
The 36-year-old returned to Ibrox this summer following the expiration of his contract at Championship side Hull City, and the Scotland international has already become Gerrard’s number one.
And it’s no wonder after producing an excellent performance against Maribor last night in saving a late penalty to keep Rangers’ two-goal lead in tact, while many other key saves helped ensure Gerrard’s side enjoyed a relatively comfortable evening in the Slovenian city.
And several Rangers supporters have taken to Twitter to laud the efforts of the goalkeeper…
Best Rangers defence i’ve seen in a long time. McGregor was outstanding

The save McGregor made before he saved the penalty was vital.
The save he made from the penalty shows why having someone like McGregor in goals is massive for Rangers this season.

Early days but that defence is looking class. Never a pen but mcgregor was awesome and those centre half’s remind me of butcher and gough. Could the blue storm actually be happening excited!! Well done Rangers

That was an old school Rangers performance in Europe tonight. McGregor’s saves from the free kick and the penalty were absolutely tremendous.
