With football largely suspended across the globe, footballers are amongst the high profile figures taking to social media to urge the general public to stay home and abide by the UK’s lockdown in order to protect the NHS.
The likes of Raheem Sterling have been prominent in this, as well as Rangers’ James Tavernier. Now, the Gers’ veteran striker, Jermain Defoe, was no different after the club posted a video of him telling followers to remain in the safety of their homes.
🎥 A message from @IAmJermainDefoe.

Defoe, now 37, has previously been reported by the Daily Record to potentially be in line for a coaching role behind the scenes at Ibrox under Steven Gerrard but shows little sign of slowing down despite his advancing years. Indeed, he’s scored more in the SPFL than Alfredo Morelos this season, bagging 13 at a rate of one every 137 minutes, per BBC Sport.
Judging by the responses below in line with the message, the former England man certainly looks to be a popular figure amongst Rangers fans and here’s a look at how they reacted online.
