Plenty of Rangers fans have been reacting to a video clip shared by the club’s official Twitter account @RangersFC which shows a well-received performance from teenage defender James Maxwell. On this occasion, though, the 18-year-old wasn’t earning plaudits for his actions on the pitch, but rather in front of a microphone.
The clip shows the teenager performing ‘The Lazy Song’ by Bruno Mars as his initiation song in front of the first team squad and management as he accompanies them on their mid-season training camp in Dubai, with manager Steven Gerrard seen smiling at the front of the team bus during Maxwell’s performance, which appeared to go down well with his team-mates.
The young left-back hasn’t made a senior competitive debut at Ibrox but has been featuring regularly for Graeme Murty’s development side, having been ever-present in their UEFA Youth League campaign so far and also getting a few games in the Scottish Challenge Cup.
These Rangers fans took to Twitter to give their reactions to Maxwell’s initiation song:
Haha fair play son

Great to see the old initiations still exist! Well played James – congrats on the involvement with the big team and sure as anything those guys in the front rows will provide you with further opportunities to learn and progress your career.
