Rangers announced on their official website rangers.co.uk that the 20-year-old has completed a permanent transfer to Ayr United, to whom he was on loan from the ‘Gers this season, with the Glasgow club retaining future options on the player should they wish to bring him back to Ibrox further down the line.
The academy graduate and right-back managed just one first team appearance for the Light Blues and even that lasted for only four minutes as a late substitute against Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Cup a year ago. He has also seen fellow youngster and right-back Nathan Patterson emerge from the youth ranks to make his senior debut against Stranraer last week. However, Houston has been playing regularly at Ayr this term, making 17 appearances and providing two assists.
These fans of the Ibrox club reacted with appreciation to the 20-year-old’s farewell message and have backed him to return to the ‘Gers later in his career:
Good luck wee man a know for a fact you’ll be back one day top player💙👍🏼
