Some Rangers fans were not happy with captain James Tavernier following their UEFA Europa League defeat against Young Boys on Thursday.
Does Steven Gerrard need to win the league this season?
The Gers squandered a 1-0 lead against the Swiss outfit to lose 2-1, with Christian Fassnacht scoring a 93rd-minute winner.
It was a disappointing night for Steven Gerrard’s side, who failed to build on their win against Feyenoord on matchday one.
Tavernier took the brunt of the blame for the result from the supporters, having made defensive errors in the build-up to both Young Boys goals.
The former Newcastle United right-back has been a regular for the Ibrox club this season, despite being consistently linked with a transfer away.
Indeed he has played 17 matches already this season, including starting all seven of their Scottish Premiership matches so far. He has even produced some excellent attacking returns of late, with three goals and two assists in his last three league appearances (via TransferMarkt).
Despite those impressive stats, quite a few of the Rangers fans were quick to criticise him after his costly errors in Switzerland, while some want to see the ex-Rotherham United man dropped to the bench.
Here is what some of them had to say about Tavernier on Twitter following the result…
Tavernier shouldn’t be a rangers player anymore

Imagine we had a right back that could defend

Both goals Tav at fault… Pretending to be shocked

And that’s why our Captain is still our Captain and not down south. Liability.

Tavernier has had a shocker all night

Not seen him having a decent defensive game yet, yes good assists but a total liability in defence

The worst defender in the back 4 has sold the jersey tonight. You simply cannot have your captain making mistakes like the ones he made in this game.
