Wednesday night was one to forget for Rangers, who relinquished a first half lead to lose 2-1 at Kilmarnock and fall 10 points off the pace in the Premiership title race. The frustrations of many ‘Gers fans were compounded by the yellow card shown to winger Ryan Kent just before half-time, as noted by @RangersFC on Twitter.
44' YELLOW: Power and Kent are booked after a late challenge from Power. | 0-1

In the 44th minute, the 23-year-old was on the receiving end of a late challenge from Kilmarnock’s Alan Power, who was booked by referee John Beaton for that tackle. However, as noted by James Black of Rangers News, the Light Blues winger got involved in “some handbags” with the 32-year-old and was duly booked for his perceived retaliation.
That was Kent’s first booking of the season on a frustrating night for the ex-Liverpool man, who could have had a penalty early in the second half when he went to ground under pressure from Chris Burke, only for Beaton to be unmoved (as per BBC). Glasgow Times writer Graeme Macpherson summed up his night by giving him a five in his player ratings and lamenting “a quiet performance” as he was “never really able to get into the game”.
These Rangers fans on Twitter were far from happy with Kent being booked after the foul from Power on 44 minutes, with one supporter describing it as a “joke”:

Beaton bottled it didnt know who done what so booked both. Kent should never of got booked

Biggest cop out in officiating: two players were involved so both get booked. Kilmarnock’s central midfield pairing of Dicker and Power are nothing but a couple of hammer throwers.
