Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister delivered a concerning update on the fitness of midfielder Ryan Jack on Tuesday morning.
Speaking to the press ahead of the midweek Premiership clash against Ross County (as per @RangersFC on Twitter), McAllister told reporters that the 27-year-old has suffered a recurrence of a calf problem and is set to be ruled out for up to two weeks.
As noted by Sky Sports, Jack sustained a calf injury in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Hearts and was replaced at half-time by Scott Arfield, with the midfielder now set to miss the Light Blues’ next three games, including one against former club Aberdeen.
He has been a regular presence in Steven Gerrard’s line-up this season, starting 10 of the last 11 Premiership matches as well as all six Europa League group games (as per TransferMarkt). He has five goals and four assists to his name so far in 2019/20, while he has played the second most passes per game (53.5) of anyone in the Rangers squad and has the fourth best passing accuracy rate (85.4%), as per WhoScored.
McAllister’s update on Jack caused alarm among these Rangers fans on Twitter, with one asking for Ross McCrorie to be recalled from his loan spell at Portsmouth:

Our squad is starting to fall apart. We need signings to complete for the title. Arfield is a decent replacement, but we need more quality on the bench. A third striker is a must imo.

Jack will be a massive miss but let’s not forget Morelos is back. Arfield will take Jacks position

Might regret sending some of these players on loan now. Time for Stewart and Docherty to get a chance
