Rangers winger Jordan Jones is attracting interest from the English Championship in the January transfer window.
Herald Scotland reported that Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray has identified the 25-year-old as a possible embellishment to his attacking options this month.
According to Herald Scotland, Middlesbrough and Stoke have also been credited with an interest in the winger in recent months and there could be offers made for him in this transfer window.
However, the derby defeat to Celtic at the start of September proved fateful, with the insult of a stoppage time red card compounded by the knee injury he picked up in fouling Moritz Bauer (as per Sky Sports) in the incident prompting his dismissal.
He hasn’t played since then, having only returned to matchday contention when making the bench for the Boxing Day win over Kilmarnock. [via TransferMarkt]
Chiefly a left winger, his path to the starting XI is blocked by Ryan Kent, who has started every game since the start of November and scored four goals in his last seven league matches, including a fine effort against Celtic in the recent derby win.
Jones is also capable of playing on the right flank, having done so in the Europa League qualifiers against Progres Niederkorn and on 41 other occasions during his senior career.
Also, Rangers had already loaned out two left wingers in Glenn Middleton and Jake Hastie, and with Jamie Murphy touted for a January exit (as per Football Insider) having played just 53 minutes all season, Jones wouldn’t appear to be hopelessly far down the pecking order.
Jones had been featuring frequently before his injury, while Gerrard doesn’t seem to be richly stocked with trusted options on the left wing, so the Rangers boss could be reluctant to let him go this month.
The 25-year-old’s ability to switch to the right flank is another feather in his cap and he deserves a chance to come back into contention at Ibrox first rather than being allowed through the exit door in January.
