It’s been a busy January already for the Rangers fans here in the Transfer Tavern. Indeed, after the mess the club’s board made of trying to find a long-term successor to Graeme Murty, the punters propping up our bar have been delighted to watch some proactive in the transfer market.
Buoyed by the signings of Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy, our resident Gers are eager for more. However, according to reports from STV, they may face a battle to land another apparent Ibrox target. They claim the Glasgow giants may face competition from Championship side Cardiff City in a tussle to prize Greg Docherty away from SPFL rivals, Hamilton Academical.
The 21-year-old is understood to have impressed Murty so far this season and it’s further claimed that those behind the scenes are looking for a squad overhaul this month, though interest from Wales may well make life difficult when it comes to signing the midfielder, whose combative style would be ideal for Rangers’ engine room.
Wary of a bidding war, many of our Rangers fans in the bar aren’t holding out too much hope of taking on a Championship side.
While Docherty would certainly add some bite to the Ibrox ranks, surely the club can’t take on Cardiff City in the transfer market. Though the Bluebirds aren’t flush with cash, the money on offer in England’s second tier would be hard to battle with, if Neil Warnock’s men are seriously keen.
