Rangers are said to have ‘pushed the boat out’ when it came down to offering Leon King a new deal in their successful attempts to tie down his future with the Ibrox outfit.
According to a report by Football Insider, the teenager was handed a contract that ranks alongside some of the best they have ever offered to a player in-and-around his current age bracket.
Interest in King was supposedly rife in the winter, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Red Bull Leipzig all said to have been keen on the youngster (per Football Insider).
It has been suggested the 16-year-old has been handed a deal that will see him earn six figures, perhaps further highlighting just how highly touted and well regarded he is by all those at Auchenhowie, with Steven Gerrard having already had positive remarks to make about the defender.
Indeed, the teenager has already been making an impression in the lower levels of football for the club, having played a role in the squad that won the Alkass International Cup last year and was also a member of the team that was crowned under-18 league winners (per the club’s official website).
King has also already featured for Graeme Murty’s side on a couple of occasions as well, further highlighting just what those in Glasgow think about him.
Indeed, with the amount of alleged interest and the talent it appears he has to offer, keeping King at Rangers would have appeared to have been something the Ibrox outfit needed to make happen and it perhaps is not a surprise to hear he has become one of the best-paid teenagers the Glaswegians have had on the books.
Perhaps it will not be too long before he is gracing the Ibrox turf and showing everybody why the club decided to make that decision.
