The Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern enjoyed their January window as Graeme Murty and those behind the scenes rang the changes at Ibrox. With a few new signings in tow, our local Light Blues believe their squad is looking much better now.
Well, there’s still a chance that could yet change. Alfredo Morelos has been linked with a money-spinning move to China as Beijing Renhe reportedly weigh up a move for the Colombian striker before the close of their transfer window at the end of the month.
Though no one associated with the Ibrox giants would enjoy seeing him depart, the £8m fee touted for the 21-year-old should give the club something to think about. Having only purchased Morelos for £1m a few months ago, that kind of profit is not to be sniffed at.
Should the club decide to cash in, perhaps Murty should look to bring in a free agent. If so, he could do a lot worse than a move for the out of contract Victor Anichebe. Without a club since leaving Sunderland in the summer, the Nigeria international could be an astute addition.
Able to hold the ball up and bring others into play, the former Everton man could add a different dimension to the Gers’ attack, potentially bringing out the best in the likes of Jason Cummings and Josh Windass, in what would be a wonderfully varied frontline.
Perhaps he wouldn’t be the most exciting name, his £900k rating on Transfermarkt certainly hints the 29-year-old has something left to offer. After all, he performed reasonably well in a thoroughly dreadful Black Cats side, so the idea of deploying him as the spearhead of an exciting frontline isn’t as crazy as it sounds.
